This was a new one for OBJ. We were invited to appear at The Royal
Windsor Flower Show in Windsor Great Park, and the possibility of meeting
a "Royal" was too much to resist. It didn't happen, and the closest we got
to royalty was Alan Titchmarsh - who also happens to be a patron of the
Watercress Line. To paraphrase my encounter with him just a
little: "Oh Yes, I went there once to see Flying Scotsman - It had a
chimney at one end, and a jolly good lunch at the other"!
The summer of 2026 will be remembered as the driest, hottest succession of
heat-waves in recorded history, turning most gardens into an arid
wasteland. June 6th must have been sandwiched between one heat-wave
and the next, as it tipped it down with rain most of the day. Well,
it's all good for the gardens (and the flowers).
The postscript to this is that Colin & Chris's daughter (who was with
us) was awarded an OBE in the King's Birthday Honours List, so some of us
might meet a "royal" later this year anyway!
OBJ comprised: Andrew, Andy, Ann, Cameron, Christine, Claire, Colin, Eleanor, Jamie, Joe, Les, Peter, RichardH, Rose, Sarah1 (and her rat named Basil), Sarah2, Sophia, Sylvia, plus Colin & Chris's grandchildren Thomas and Elodie
