OBJ Morris - 2021 Scrapbook

Swanage Folk Festival
11-12th September 2021

Our first post Covid lockdown Folk Festival, and Swanage delivered the usual unforgettable experience.

We introduced two new members (Graeme and Christine2) to the joys of Swanage, the train ride up to Corfe Castle, massed dancing, and dancing in the sea. Simply wonderful.

OBJ comprised: Adam, Alison, Andy, Ann, Chris1, Christine1, Christine2, Claire, Clare, Claudia, Colin, Eddie, Graeme, Ian, Joe, Karen, Mark, MaryAnn, Mike, Peter and Tony, with help from Emma & Sam, Andy & grandchildren, Freya, and many more!

Saturday morning on the sea front

We started half-way along and finished the morning by the clock tower and beach huts

I've noticed that the shadows were almost as impressive as the dancers!

Off to The Red Lion for a late lunchtime spot there

While most of the morris teams were preparing for the procession in Swanage, we followed our ancient custom of a steam train ride, cream tea and dancing at Corfe Castle.

Mayflower Morris came along to give us some company, plus various musicians etc

We gave a big thank-you to our friends at the Swanage Railway for laying on an extra train to bring us back to Swanage.

Up bright and early on Sunday morning for an informal extra spot near the Mowlem building

Wonderful views out towards Old Harry Rocks and Christchurch

Freya (in the third picture) is our B&B proprietors daughter and has joined us for the dancing, tin-rattling and sea-dancing every year since she was about 4 years old. She did an excellent job of collecting donations to the festival

Then the Heritage Centre - AKA "The Fish & Chip" spot.

We'd dined there on Saturday evening, and marvelled at the operation of the automated rubbish bins

Those shadows were dancing again in the second picture

The last individual spots on Sunday were at the Mowlem Building and the Red Lion

Followed by the usual massed dancing of Worcestershire Monkey and Tide, and dancing in the sea.

Here are a few happy snaps accumulated during the weekend
