OBJ Morris - 2019 Scrapbook

Coppicing at Lily Hill Park, Bracknell
2nd March 2019

A few of us donned the wellies and fleeces for a few hours work in the spring sunshine at Lily Hill Park.

The object of the exercise was to clear an area to allow light to penetrate, and to gather some hazel for future stick-making when it's been seasoned.

Clare is a gardener at Lily Hill, and arranged the tools, biscuits and most importantly, access to the hazel!

OBJ comprised: Ann, Christopher,Clare, Claudia, Colin, Eddie, Karen, Mark, Philip and Tony

Karen and Tony sorting out the offcuts (I think!).

These bits go to make hedgehog and bug homes in the park.

I think this might be Christopher - difficult to tell from this angle

This is definitely Ann in her element

Must be tea break as there's quite a bit of standing around going on

A few days later, and the sticks are cut to length and the ends soaked in dilute PVA to seal them

Ready to go in my garage loft few for a couple of years to season

There were a few rejects - too thick, too thin or too knotty.

They go to Ann's wood burner - nothing wasted
