Lily Hill Park Wassail - Bracknell
14th January 2017
For the first time, we went along to the Lily Hill Park wassail.
It was a bit of a challenge as most of the park was completely dark so we
chose a location where there was a glimmer of light to do some dancing.
We abandoned face-blacking so we had a hope of locating one another, and
many donned additional navigation lights.
The wassail ended with the usual blessing of the apple orchard, driving
off evil spirits etc.
OBJ comprised: Andy, Ali, Ann, Chris,Clare, Claudia, Colin, Eddie, Giles,
Helen, Jane, Joe, Karen, Kelly, Lawre, Mark, Mike, Philip and Sarah
And here they all are - posed in the car park as it was the
least-dark place we could find

Ann's headgear shows that she was bobbing up and down quite
quickly.
Or was it camera-shake induced by the cold?
|
This looks like a warming-up Dilwyn.

Colin, Phil and Lawre, with Chris and Ann in the background

Happy faces all round
This may be a Bay Horse

|
Not sure what's happening here, but Chris and Ann are in the
foreground
|
This must be a Worcestershire Monkey
Helen and Karen are nearest to us
|
|
|
Maybe more Worcestershire Monkey
|
You can see the breath in the cold air

Not sure if the exposure in this one is just right, but it
captured the "atmosphere" created by the cold air and the headgear
Joe is in the middle of a double Hay-on-Wye

And here is pretty well the same picture

Hay-on-Wye again

More Hay-on-Wye, and more mist

Hay-on-Wye comes to and end

Cider being poured

The bonfire was a necessity. By then it was freezing!

|
|
Not sure what was happening here - we were probably extolling
the virtues of the wassail cake
|
This little girl was selected to bless the apple tree with toast
and cider

After driving away evil spirits, we finished with some singing
