Back to Weymouth for another Folk Festival. What could be finer!
Well, the weather forecast could have been finer for a start - but as it
turned out, the Saturday was wonderful and after a bit of a grizzle in the
morning (causing a retreat to the Kings Arms), the Sunday turned out quite
nicely.
Probably the nicest spot was Sunday afternoon, which we shared with a
team of Irish dancers from Yetminster. Yetminster? Where on earth is that?
Evidently it's near Yeovil. As one of the girls explained, it's where the
Yeti's band came from - well that clarifies that!
The photos are from a variety of sources, including Helen Jones (thank
you) and Penny from Yetminster Irish.
OBJ comprised: Andy, Ann, Chris, Claudia, Colin, Emma, Ian, Jason, Joe,
Kelly(Sat), MaryAnn, MikeG, Pegeen, Sarah, Tony and Vera with a little

The band. Probably at the tea shop spot
Colin and Joe seem to be in conference, MaryAnn is fiddling,
Vera is drumming and Jason is playing Eunice. Andy, Claudia and
Pegeen are clustering and I've no idea what Jess is doing!
Can't work out which dance this is, but Sarah and Ann are in the
foreground
Dilwyn up at the Kings Arms spot
Jess and Sarah are nearest, then on this side are Ian, Pegeen,
Claudia and Andy
It could be any dance
But I liked the camera angle that picked out Joe nicely
Hay-on-Wye at the tea room spot
Pegeen, Tony and MikeG are facing Andy, Ian and Sarah
Possibly Bay Horse, being played about as fast as I can play it.
Ann, Emma and Tony are nearest
Emma had a strong reaction to something in the air, so she
quickly un-blacked to sort her eyes out.
Hay-on-Wye again
MaryAnn passes Pegeen in the inside-out figure
Bay Horse at the tea shop spot
Ann and Sarah are nearest
"Tide" (Just as the tide was a'flowin)
Emma and Claudia on the left, and Sarah and MikeG on the right
Dilwyn comes to an end, at the Old Rooms Inn spot
Ann, Emma, MikeG and Andy on this side
Hay-one-Wye at the tea room
Richard joined in the music for some of the dances
A very good picture of our sticks - being used for Hay-on-Wye
Pegeen is facing Tony
Not sure which dance this is
Members of Wild Hunt look on - some more approvingly than
others.
Ann, Sarah and Emma are in the foreground
On the Sunday we shared a spot with Yetminster Irish, which
turned out very well.
We persuaded them to join us in an East Acton which probably
attracted the largest audience at the festival.
Their ages ranged from about 5 to 16 and this was the smallest.
She did very well!
They all seemed to enjoy themselves
This little girl found it hysterically funny to be dancing with
grown-ups.
Emma and Ian sticking with their little counterparts.
As is customary, the musicians all entered the circle for the
final figure
Here are some of the older girls in their blue dresses - they
seemed to enjoy it
In return the Yetminster dancers asked us to join in with one of
their dances.
Here we are in a nice long set doing just that
And here are Colin and Claudia with their partners
Another band picture
Colin, Joe and Kelly
Jess atop one of the convenient rubbish bins
Ann and Claudia consuming Happy Slapper and Leg Wobbler.
No further comment required!
And here are the same pair - I suspect after their dip in the sea
Ian, Emma, Andy and Joe relax in the sunshine
Little Anna and her mum
Another band picture, including musicians recruited from Wild
Hunt.
Sarah, MaryAnn and Jess.
Jess had been in the sea earlier that day so had changed out of
her wet OBJ kit.
It's hard to imagine that just a few years ago, trains ran
through the arch just to the right of the bridge.
Jess with a little dot who was attached to one of the other teams
- possibly Festus Derriman
